Why go to school?

Today many young people in our society have totally lost their way. Often they feel worthless and have no purpose for living. In pursuit of happiness and to fill the emptiness, they have turned to drugs, sex and alcohol. They are really looking for life, and yet so many are unaware that Jesus died so that they might have life, and life to the full. Sad to say, however, they view church as being irrelevant and therefore what hope have they of hearing the gospel? This is the reason we go to where they are - to school. Our team takes morning assemblies, RE classes, lunchtime specials and Scripture union groups, presenting the gospel through testimony, song and drama in a way that is relevant to young people.

A typical youth and schools outreach consists of a week's ministry in schools and churches in a particular area, followed by a special youth event at which young people are given the opportunity to respond to the call of God. We are so thankful for how God has made it possible in this way for us to reach tens of thousands of young people with the gospel and for the many souls that have been won for Christ through this aspect of our work.

Here is some feedback from some of the schools that our ministry team have visited:

Excellent! All senior classes involved were greatly impressed. Personal testimonies of the team allowed them to reflect on how God can change lives. It was 'time out' to think about their faith.

Mrs Teresa Kearney, Head of R.E., St Mary's High School, Newry

The content of their talks was so sincere and so powerful. I would recommend this wonderful work to other schools.

Mrs. Mavis Knox, former Deputy Principal, Parkhall College, Antrim

It was a delight and a pleasure to have you visit the school! The kids have been talking about your visit since. It has opened up amazing conversations in class and on a one to one basis.

Miss Glenda Crawford, Head of R.E., Fivemiletown College

Excellent, engaging talks given by the team which challenged the pupils intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. The pupils were very attentive and challenged to consider how Christianity applies to them.

Mrs E Heslip, Head of R.E., Royal School Armagh

During the visit of LMI with Richard Pidgley over 60% of the pupils were able to hear Richard's story. During each session you could have heard a pin drop and as Richard spoke in a vibrant and sincere manner you could tell he was obviously striking a chord with many of the young people there. We know that many of the pupils were deeply moved by what Richard had to say and greatly impressed by them.

Mrs Linda Nesbitt, Ballymoney High School, Ballymoney

Comments from people who have served on our Youth & Schools Outreach team

I don't know if there is another sphere of Christian service that allows a person to talk face to face with hundreds of future adults and tell them clearly that they are loved and valued by Jesus. I know that what LMI has done in schools has been eternally valuable.

Steve Parsons, Singer/ Songwriter, Manchester

When would I, in a lifetime of preaching have had the opportunity of speaking to so many precious young people about the importance of putting the Lord Jesus at the centre of our lives? Apart from LMI, never. I have stood in front of thousands of them and poured my heart out about the things that matter most.

Derick Bingham, Christ Church, Belfast

Schools Outreach Programmes

The LMI Youth & Schools Outreach Team are available to come and visit your school for assemblies, Scripture Union groups, RE lessons and retreat days. Some of the programmes currently being delivered in schools include the following:

Riches & Wealth - is there more to life than this?

Whilst the world in which we live encourages us to acquire more and more wealth, are riches the answer that we really crave?

Facing Decisions & Making Choices - looking at the biggest decision in life.

Choices, choices, choices; we all make them daily, but what is the biggest choice we face in life?

Value & Worth - just how valuable are you, do you know what you're really worth?

Most people struggle with self-esteem and self-worth at some stage in life, but do you know just how precious you actually are?

What Happens Next - what's life really all about, what happens after this?

When the here and now is over, what happens next?

Identity - who are you?

Underneath the image and the labels who are you and what is it that makes you incredibly special?

Faces of Jesus - the most recognisable figure in history.

Nearly all the world has heard of Him and many artists have tried to capture their impressions of Him but what do we really know about Jesus and His claims?

In addition to the programmes shown, the LMI Youth & Schools Outreach Team can also focus on topics that you feel will benefit your pupils most. A specific programme can be developed to suit the needs of your school. Whether that means focusing on part of the school's RE syllabus or looking into issues that your pupils are currently investigating, a programme can be tailored especially for you.

LMI school programmes can also include live music, drama and well-known figures from the world of sport upon request.

If you would like to book the LMI Youth & Schools Outreach Team to deliver a programme, take an assembly or an RE class then please feel free to contact us.

LMI's Youth Ministry Team could visit your youth group...

Since its inception over thirty years ago LMI has remained committed to working with young people. We have an experienced ministry team that visits youth groups right across Northern Ireland. LMI has capitalised on years of experience to provide a varied and exciting youth programme including music, drama, testimonies, multimedia presentations and ministry of God's Word.

The primary aim of our visit to a youth group is to present the gospel and to motivate young people for mission and outreach. Through our Bible talks we also deal with the real issues that young people face today.

LMI's youth programmes are challenging and informative, communicating with young people in a relevant and effective way, using a variety of resources and materials.

If you are interested in having LMI's Youth Ministry Team come to share with your youth group, please make contact with us.

We would be delighted to have the opportunity to come and join with you and your young people.
