Andaman Orphanage Project
Since the 2004 tsunami, when so many people lost their lives on the Andaman Islands, LMI has been supporting the children under Pastor Varughese Matthew’s care, many of whom were rescued in the aftermath of the disaster and now live in Calvary Children’s Home in Port Blair. What a transformation this orphanage has undergone in the last few years. The bamboo shelters have now been replaced by six concrete dormitories and it is a testament to the faith of the Indian Christian Fellowship, who trusted God for the funds to provide shelter for the hundred plus children that live in this home.
When the dormitory blocks at Calvary Children’s Home were built LMI sent the funds to Pastor Varughese to buy beds and furniture to fit out each room. This meant that each child could now have their own space to sleep, something that up until this point they had not had as they were living together in cramped conditions. In addition to this, over the last few years LMI has been sending funds to help buy school uniforms for the children. It has been such an encouragement to hear how they are progressing in their studies and developing spiritually through the influence of the Christian staff that are looking after them. Each year LMI has also sponsored a Christmas party, which has been a source of great joy for the children as they have enjoyed cakes, sweets and received gifts.

Right now we are praying that God will raise up more people to contribute to LMI’s Andaman Orphanage Project so that we will be able to continue supporting the children under Pastor Varughese’s care. In line with previous years we want to be able to provide the funds for new school uniforms and stationery items for the children. We also hope to sponsor another Christmas party this year, as it brings so much joy to the children and they really appreciate the event.
At the moment a new kitchen and dining/multipurpose hall is being built at Calvary Children’s Home. LMI has made a commitment to buy the equipment to fit out the new kitchen and provide the tables and chairs for the dining hall (estimated cost: £10,000). The foundations for this building have been laid, but unfortunately work has come to a stand-still due to a lack of finances. In light of this situation we want to be able to assist the Indian Christian Fellowship now by providing funds so that work on the site can continue. Please, pray that God will touch the hearts of people here in the UK to help make this new kitchen and dining/multipurpose hall become a reality.

If you could give a one off gift to LMI’s Andaman Orphanage Project at this time or make a commitment to support it on a monthly basis, you would be making a great investment in the lives of these children. Your support would be greatly appreciated. To support the Andaman Orphanage project click here.
