We are excited to announce the launch of a new LMI project. The Manipur Investment Project has been set up to assist Suresh Singh Kumam who is working in a church-planting ministry with the aim of reaching his own people (the Meitei people) with the Gospel. The Meiteis are an unreached people group that live in three countries: India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. To find out more about Suresh and the ministry that God has called him to, please read the project leaflet. By reading the leaflet you will also learn how LMI seeks to partner with Suresh in his valuable work for God’s kingdom.

Suresh will be visiting the UK to take part in a LMI Mission Awareness Programme from 26th September – 19th October. A full list of the meetings that Suresh will be speaking at can be accessed here. Perhaps you would be able to come and hear Suresh speak about his ministry at an event near you?

Spiritual Need

In 2010 I asked a very godly Meitei, Mr. Mani Singh, how he came to know the Lord. He replied, “It was three decades ago. One evening an old lady who was selling vegetables gave me a gospel tract. Reading that tract caused me to read the Bible. That was how I came to know the Lord.” (Mr. Mani Singh still lives in Churachandpur town, Manipur. He is an electrician. He has a wonderful Christian family.) This is just one of many other similar stories.

It took over thirty years to complete the new translation of the Manipuri Bible which was released in February 2011! I had the privilege of working with the team for the last ten years of the total project. During those ten years older folks would often ask me, “Suresh, when are you going to finish the Bible? Will I see it before I die?” Pastor Mani Singh and Mr. Tomba Singh started the project while they were single, and when it was released on the 25^thof February 2011 these two dedicated men who gave their all for the Word of God were satisfied grand fathers! It took over three decades, but it was a very worthy project that will change many lives forever.

Our Aim

The Overseas Ministry Programme (OMP) is a vital aspect of the work and ministry of LMI. Through the overseas trips that are made by LMI workers and associates, hundreds of pastors and leaders are further equipped for ministry through leadership seminar training. By working in partnership with our overseas coordinators evangelism, women’s ministry, youth and children’s outreach, and ministry to Bible College students is undertaken with the ultimate goal of advancing God’s Kingdom and mobilizing others to do the same being at the centre of all that we do.

Growing up in the West Midlands (Coventry) I frequently came into contact with Indian culture from a young age, with many of my school friends having Indian roots. Therefore I was really eager to sample the culture of this huge land which is home to Bollywood, Biryani¹ and Bhangra!

Stepping off the plane after a fourth flight in over twenty-four hours of travelling I was glad to have arrived in the city of Imphal in the North Eastern state of Manipur. I was also extremely surprised by the scene that greeted me upon my arrival; not a selection of sari’s and the vision of India I had been picturing in my mind since leaving Heathrow, but a community that more closely resembled Myanmar than Mumbai! The Manipuri people (known as Meiteis) are of ancient Mongolian descent and have a culture and appearance that is distinctly South East Asian rather than like that of the Indian subcontinent.
