Schools Book Project Update

Thank you to those who have already contributed to LMI’s Schools Book Project, the aim of which is to distribute good Christian books to pupils free of charge. During the recent schools outreach in the Mourne district 700 pupils received Richard Pidgely’s book Seriously Rich. Earlier this year we were able to purchase 2,000 copies of the Kaka story Towards the Goal (as previously reported), which is another book that is part of our project. Distribution of this book will begin during our next schools outreach in November. However, we are still trusting God to reach our goal of being able to add Made to be Me by Shell Perris to the project to enable girls that are contacted in the schools to receive this book detailing one young woman’s journey of faith, which included being bullied at school and surviving an eating disorder. Please pray for this project, as we want to begin distribution of Made to be Me alongside the Kaka story in November. One copy of Made to be Me costs just £2.25.

The Kingdom Call

For five nights over the 8th – 12th August 2011 we had the incredible privilege of teaching at Cormeen Camp, a youth camp run in County Monaghan for ages 13 – 18. This camp has been running for over thirty years and many of the leaders serving young people on the camp have been through Cormeen themselves in years gone by!

Each evening we took the winding road down through County Armagh and into Monaghan where we taught the gathering of 150 or so young people from the Bible, focusing on the theme of the Kingdom of God and five different aspects of the words of Jesus as recorded in Matthew’s Gospel: (i) Kingdom Life, (ii) Kingdom Mission, (iii) Kingdom Parables, (iv) Kingdom Community & (v) Kingdom Come.

Schools Book Project Update

Thanks to the generous donations from LMI supporters 2,000 copies of Seriously Rich were purchased and the process of distribution is well and truly under way. In addition 2,000 copies of the book Towards the Goal have been bought and were delivered to LMI’s office at the end of March. Please pray for the pupils that will receive these books in the coming days. Pray that God will use the stories of both Richard Pidgley and Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite (or “Kaka” as he is more commonly known), as they share about how God transformed their lives, to draw young people to Christ. At present funds for the Made to be Me book, which targets girls, are still needed. To provide a pupil with a free copy of Made to be Me costs just £2.25.

2010 at a glance

In 2010 LMI’s Youth & Schools Outreach Teams visited 21 different schools, making a total of 38 visits reaching 4,078 pupils. The opportunity to share the love of Christ and the truths of scripture to students is truly amazing! Now, more than ever the youth of today need to know that Christ promises a life abundant that can be theirs through faith. In the various visits that LMI’s Youth & Schools Outreach Team made in 2010, 19 different topics were covered ranging from addressing issues such as Value & Worth and Forgiveness, to tackling the tough questions like Where is God? The message of the Bible is so counter-cultural to modern perspectives, and LMI’s team shows in sessions like True Greatness, Identity and The Big Picture, how looking at things from God’s point of view can change the way these aspects of life are viewed.
