R - REDEMPTION. 1 Peter chapter 1:18b-19 ‘knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot’.
After focusing on the cross and the empty tomb over Easter, we now remember the price of our redemption. Galatians 3 :13 ‘Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on the tree’.
Christ paid the price to redeem us, to bring us back to God and set us free from sin. Ephesians 1:17 ‘In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight’.
Christ’s value on our soul is immeasurable. ‘For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?’. Mark 8 v 36
Christ made us, we were lost in sin and it cost Him his death to buy us back. Has he bought you back? Has His precious blood been applied to your heart? Is He the most valuable possession in your life? A quote by one preacher says ‘ If you want to know how rich you are, count up the things that money cannot buy, and that death cannot take away’!
A little boy was devastated when he lost the precious boat he had made. One day he saw it in a shop window with a for sale notice attached! He used his pocket money to buy it. He was overjoyed as he held his boat and said ‘you are twice mine now because I made you and I bought you.
God made us and when we were lost in sin Christ paid our debt!
My worth is not in what I own
Not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love
At the cross
My worth is not in skill or name
In win or lose, in pride or shame
But in the blood of Christ that flowed
At the cross
Two wonders here that I confess
My worth and my unworthiness
My value fixed, my ransom paid
At the cross
I rejoice in my redeemer
Greatest treasure
Wellspring of my soul
And I will trust in him, no other
My soul is satisfied in him alone
